A visit to Zao Resort

This time, I would like to introduce my travel experience to Zao Hotsprings and Ski Resort, situated in south Yamagata Prefecture. We visited Zao in March, 2008 for refreshment and to release the stress and fatigue. As for me, Onsen (Hot spring) is really good to release the stress. Moreover, there are "snow monsters" (Juhyoo) in Zao which are unique spectacle in the world. I would like to share the scenes of Zao and hope all of you will enjoy.

Zao is famous for the "snow monsters" which are made by a seasonal wind hits against trees, shaping the snow on trees in several forms of animals. Moreover, it is also one of the famous ski resorts and hot springs in Japan. Obviously, the weather at that time is really cold and seems everything is freezing. Here, the ice hanging from the window of hotel can be seen.

This is the unforgettable sunset scene from the mountain's summit of the ski resort. On the way to there, we can see the amazing snow monsters. Yoo...

Come on, to ride the tram to the mountain's summit and view the Juhyoo (snow monsters), let's get on cable cars and enjoy together.

Sendai08

Last few days, I participated in this International symposium at Tohoku University, Sendai.
I think I had a good chance to participate in such an Intern'l symposium without needing to go outside of JPN.
Now, you can imagine what I am studying.
But I am not a strange human being. :D
As for me, poster presentation is the more difficult and fatigue job comparing to formal speech presentation. Well, I had to explain to the audience for more than one hour.At that Symposium, I met with a retired professor (Prof.Dr.Y.Akaishi) who has been to Myanmar many times for seminars, International workshop, International winter-school and lectures at Mandalay University. We were very happy to meet with each other again. He is going to go to Myanmar in next year's February to give lectures. No wonder that he has been using his own money to go to Myanmar. I felt gratitude of him for sharing his knowledge and experience to the students of Mandalay University .

He is one of the famous persons in his specialize field of science and has been publishing many papers. Although he has retired already, he is still doing research, publishing papers and working as an Emeritus Professor at RIKEN.

I received a "Proceedings of the Japan Academy" which includes his published paper, with his signature on it, for the rememberance. I am very proud of receiving this journal from such a great scientist.

Summer Trip to Hokkaido(2006)

Day1

I joined Summer Trip to Hokkaido region for International Students from 30th August to 1st September, 2006. (on the year I arrived Japan)

We left Sendai Airport at 9:55 a.m and arrived Shin-Chitose Airport at about 11:05 a.m.
First, we visited the Historical Village of Hokkaido (Near Sapporo). That place is like a large village with full of old houses without people living so that it is an outdoor Museum. Old buildings from about 100 years ago are restored and reproduced there.

Entrance of Historical Village

Lunch at the restaurant of Historical Village of Hokkaido. Lamb meat is famous food in Hokkiado.

After lunch, we went for sightseeing there. We could see many historical houses.

The lamp-post in front of the house can be seen. These are some inner parts of houses.

You can also see their life styles in the house. They are not real human.

Do you see the iron? Although it is in museum of Japan, it is still needed to use in ........

You can have a ride here for going around. The price is 200 yen per person.

Then , Hokkaido University
Big campus, big and old buildings of the Hokkaido Univesity

DAY 2
We experienced Potato Digging at a farm in Furano Town.

We received one box of potato each that we dig up.
This old lady treated with boiled corn to us. It was very delicious. Thanks a lot grandma.
We stayed at Alpha Resort Tomamu on the second night.

Japanese Style Dinner

DAY 3

We visited the Chitose Salmon Museum.
Chitose is the name of the river. A part of that museum was constructed under the Chitose river. So, we had a chance to see some creatures from the under water viewing room.

We are now under the Chitose river.
It is blue...

Then, we had a visit to Northern Horse Park. Since the park is very large, we rented bicycles or small cars for sightseeing. If you like to ride on a horse, you can have a ride there.

These are the statues of the champions in the horse races.

Woo.. This is big and strong horse. We flew back to Sendai Airport and arrived at 6:30pm.
It was wonderful and enjoyable trip.
